About

Annette Gendler

I am a nonfiction writer. I am currently seeking representation for my memoir about an impossible love that succeeded (mine and my husband’s) even though that same constellation, the forbidden love between a German and a Jew, had failed in my family before and was my in-laws’ ultimate nightmare. An excerpt from the manuscript, Giving Up Christmas, was published in Tablet Magazine.

My essays have appeared in many literary journals, and links can be found under Writing. I hold an MFA in Creative Writing from Queens University of Charlotte. After 15 years of working in consulting, I left the corporate world a few years ago. I now teach memoir writing at StoryStudio Chicago and English composition at Kaplan University, and do communications work for my children’s school. I live in Chicago with my husband and three children.

On this blog I share my quest and experience writing, teaching and publishing nonfiction, particularly memoir. I also share my love for photography, travel, art, books and many other things (see labels at right), and include occasional musings on life as a writer, a mother and wife, and just, sometimes, life in general.
