Porch Icicles

We are having a formidable winter here in Chicago, and that includes formidable ice formations such as these on my neighbors' porch.

Flower baskets dripping ice

Clearly something is wrong with the gutter, and in the long run that's not so good, but for now it makes for curtains of ice.

How about these layers?

I was so taken by capturing the ice that I donned fingerless gloves and put on my coat to step out on our porch to take these shots of the icicles across the street.

  1. Yesterday, a friend and I were noticing the huge icicles on buildings as we drove home from Book Club. Got to wondering if someone could write a mystery titled "The Icicle Murders" Some of them are real daggers!

    1. Nancy, that someone would be you! How about trying your hand at writing fiction?

  2. Those are amazing... and they'd be dangerous indeed if they fell...

    1. Thanks, William. Usually they melt without much drama
