A Big Thank You to all my Commenters

Thank you notes by Man vs. George Design
I'm under a writing deadline today, so first I was going to post a poem, but then I saw in my summary blog statistics that, to date, I have had 1200 comments on this blog. Consequently, a round number like that is a great opportunity to thank all of you who have commented.

Please know your comments make all the difference in blogging for me. If it weren't for you, I probably would not be blogging anymore, because without comments, blogging is like giving a presentation without an audience. I had to do that a few times in my corporate life when I was asked to pre-record presentations for people who would not be able to attend a meeting. It was the oddest feeling, and very hard to do, sitting in a recording studio, and trying to talk to nobody in a halfway animated way.

While I know my blog's audience is wider than those who take the time to comment, and I do appreciate everyone who reads what I post, unless you do comment, I don't know how my writing resonates. I don't know what you like, what you think, and what you're most interested in.

Many of my commenters have shaped this blog, first and foremost probably Natalie Hartford, thanks to her enthusiasm for my early photo essays. My whole foray into photography is really thanks to all of you who cheered me on when I created photo essays to share my family's roadtrip to the Southwest last summer.

I try to return the favor of commenting on other blogs as much as possible, but I know I fall short, and that makes me appreciate all the comments I receive even more. This note would not be complete without an extra thank you to Anjuli, aka Connie, my most steadfast commenter ever. I don't know how you do it, but you comment on pretty much every post, even rather uninspired ones, and for that I love you!

A big, big thank you to all of you who have ever commented on my blog! I appreciate your time, your generosity and your thoughtfulness.

  1. Awwww...warmed my heart Annette! I read nearly all your posts, even if I don't always comment and your photo essays are held near and dear to my heart. The travels you take and share with us are such that it makes me feel like I've been there and that's something special and unique...and treasured!
Here's to your continued blogging...we all luv and appreciate your voice!

  2. I have learned a great deal from your blog!!! (I continue to learn so much from it)= I enjoy each and every post you do. I love the posts you do which showcase Chicago...and I particularly loved your showcasing Shanghai this month!! great photos!! Every time I look in and see a great photograph it makes me want to start taking pictures, I'm not talented when it comes to photography- so I normally 'borrow' other people's photos- but maybe I should push myself in this area....hmmm...maybe I should ask my hubby for a camera for my b'day :)

  5. Count me among your steadfast "lurkers" as I wouldn't miss a day - but wanted to leave a real live comment today to let you know how much I enjoy each and every post - but especially the photo essays. I'm always amazed at the detail you provide the reader. I leave your blog knowing so much more about places as far away as China, or as near as your southside neighborhood. Can't tell you exacly why, but I think my favorite so far is the photo essay on Indiana Beach, which I have on my list to visit this summer. As a writer I also find your posts related to craft extremely valuable. Thanks Annette - you and your blog inspire me!

    1. Thank you so much for coming out of your lurking and leaving a comment, Diane! How interesting that Indiana Beach is your favorite photo essay so far; I could never have predicted that! See what I mean? How would I know if you don't tell me? But, I do love Indiana Beach myself, and you reminded me that I have to find a way to make all our schedules work so the kids and I can go down there again this summer when it's not crowded.

  6. Congrats on all the comments. It's the best blogging reward when someone takes the time to show their appreciation and leave a note.

  7. Your post made me realize that I should comment more often, especially on blogs like yours that I try to read daily. I had a blog a few years ago and had forgotten how nice it was to get feedback. Your blog has also made me want to get back to blogging. Thanks!

  8. Wow! That number is neat! ;) Congrats, Annette!
Your writing is the true inspiration resources, and especially your blog inspires on my blogging. I sometimes copy your style (there, I said it!), and try if it fits on my stories.. ;)
Who said "an imitation is a mother of creation."? I think s/he is right. Again, thank you for being a consistent writer/blogger and being a good role model.

  9. I love the idea of thanking commenters. I agree, they make a world of difference to my blogging. Seeing page views is one thing, creating a dialogue is another. Looking forward to reading more from you in June and beyond!
